So many events and so little updating.
Classes are getting crazy here. I read three Shakespeare plays over the weekend, and I’m going to read another one tonight, and then write a paper on them for Friday. Thursday I have an American Music test Thursday. Tuesday I’m working in the greenhouse for the first time officially, which I’m really excited about. My family is going to be in town Thursday as part of Miriam’s college trip, and I’m excited to see them. Also, I have Encorps! rehearsal three times this week. In summary; much craziness.
I stole (i.e. was given) a pot and dirt from my botany lab, and I’m growing my ginkgo seed, which should hopefully germinate here in a few weeks. I’m really excited for that. My pear seed germinated wonderfully, but I think it got the blight or something, because the stem has turned an unhealthy brown. It’s probably going to die here pretty soon. Hopefully I can do better with the ginkgo. I really want this one to succeed.
Here’s a video of my friends back home that they did for a Spanish project last year.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope all of you have gotten your green out today.
I can hear as you tap on your jar.
Well, I finished Lolita finally today. That brings my page count over break to a whopping 50 pages. As I probably should have known, I read none of the books I wanted to. It’s okay, though, because I got most of the work done on my cosplay for ACen. All I have left is detail work on the hat. Oh yeah, and the staff, which may not end up happening; it looks very difficult. I really enjoyed working with my hands, something that I haven’t really been able to do here at school. It was also a great way to hang out with my mom. My family thought it was a little weird that the character has a skirt, but I assured them that he actually was a male. I think it looks great, and a lot like the character, too.
Lolita was kind of creepy. I’m not entirely sure what the point of the book was. Nobokov says that that’s a terrible question to ask, and that he only wrote it to get rid of the book (terribly poetic), but I don’t entirely believe him. It’s obviously an exercise to prove a point.
Kevin, John, and I finally finished watching .hack//SIGN. It took us a while, but it was such a good series. I brought back Read or Die for us to watch. Hopefully it won’t take us a month, seeing as it’s only three episodes. Also, Zach Silberman might come to ACen this year. I know he would really enjoy it.
I got accepted into the McGill project, so I know where I’m living next year, which makes me happy. This week, however, is going to be a little crazy. Actually, every week ’till the end of the year will probably be crazy. We’re going to start adding Encorps! rehearsals on Mondays and Fridays, in addition to Wednesdays. We need the extra practice, but it’s still a lot of time. I also have my Asian religions test on Wednesday. Hopefully I can get a good grade this test. My Shakespeare professor returned our midterms today, and she gave me an A-! In a 200 level English course! It made me very happy.

Happy (Belated) Casimir Pulaski Day!
Yesterday was Casimir Pulaski Day, one of the great national holidays. You may not have heard about it, because Casimir Pulaski was a little known general in George Washington’s army that made a very slight difference in the Revolutionary War. The only reason the day is celebrated is because the Polish population of Chicago (the second largest Polish population outside of Warsaw) wanted recognition, and this was the most famous Pole they could find. At any rate, Miriam got the day off school. Last night we gave my mom an early birthday gift. Miriam and I bought her a bright pink iPod shuffle. It was expensive, but she really liked it, and has already used it to work out. I makes her look younger
On Sunday night Austin Stewart, a friend from 4th grade, called me up and asked if I wanted to go to dinner downtown at the Cheesecake Factory with some of his college friends from Lake Forest. We took the train in, ate dinner for three hours, and had a great time. All of his friends seemed like very cool people.
I started making my Tsukasa outfit on Sunday. I already have the top hoodie and the skirt almost complete. It’s moving very quickly. My reading, however, has gone nowhere, but that’s just because I’ve spent so much time on my outfit. I owe my mom a lot of thanks for helping me with fabrics, patterns, and her general sewing knowledge.
I went out looking for a job today. Hopefully I’ll get hired at the Jamaican Gardens greenhouse.
